Updating Your Brand and App Appearance

Learn how to customize your app’s branding, colors, and visuals so it matches your business identity.

Layout allows you to fully brand your mobile app so it feels like a natural extension of your business. Branding settings control how your app looks to customers and help ensure a consistent experience across devices.

Branding is managed from the Layout dashboard and is first introduced during the setup wizard, but it can be updated at any time after launch. Changes to branding do not require app resubmission or downtime and will be reflected in the app automatically.

One of the most important branding elements is your logo. Your logo appears throughout the app, including on the home screen, headers, and loading states. For best results, your logo should be high resolution, properly cropped, and scalable. Logos with transparent backgrounds tend to work best across light and dark interfaces. If a logo appears blurry, stretched, or clipped in the app, it usually means the source file needs adjustment.

Your primary brand color defines the visual tone of the app. This color is used for buttons, highlights, progress indicators, and interactive elements. Choosing a color that contrasts well with white and dark backgrounds helps improve readability and usability. While you can change your brand color at any time, keeping it consistent with your in-store branding helps customers instantly recognize your app.

Layout automatically applies your branding across both iOS and Android to ensure consistency. You do not need to design separate themes or layouts for different platforms. The app adapts responsively while maintaining your brand identity.

Branding updates are safe to make even after your app is live. Many businesses refine their branding over time as they learn what resonates best with customers. Small adjustments such as updating logo spacing or tweaking colors can significantly improve the perceived quality of the app.

If you’re unsure whether your branding assets are optimized, Layout support can help review your files and recommend improvements. This is especially useful during onboarding, when branding issues are most commonly identified.

Strong branding helps build trust and encourages customers to keep your app on their phone. Once branding is set, the next step is ensuring your data stays up to date.
