Locations in Layout are directly tied to your Square account. When you connect Square during setup, Layout automatically pulls in all locations associated with your Square profile. These locations form the foundation of how orders, availability, and analytics are handled inside your app.
From the Layout dashboard, you can choose which locations should be active in your app. Not every Square location needs to be visible to customers. For example, you may have test locations, administrative locations, or future locations that should not appear yet. Only enabled locations will be available for mobile ordering and visible in the app.
Each active location can receive orders independently. When a customer places an order through the app, it is routed to the correct location based on their selection. Staff can then manage that order through the order panel, updating its status as it moves from preparation to ready for pickup. Customers are automatically notified as the order status changes.
Layout supports multi-location businesses under a single account. This allows you to manage branding, announcements, analytics, and Square syncing from one dashboard while still maintaining location-specific behavior. Each location can have its own hours, availability, and catalog configuration based on how it’s set up in Square.
Billing is tied to the number of active locations. The Layout Pro subscription includes one location by default. Additional locations can be added for a monthly fee per location. You can add or remove locations at any time from the billing section of the dashboard. Changes to location count take effect immediately and are reflected in your next billing cycle.
If you disable a location, it will no longer appear in the app and will stop accepting mobile orders. Historical data and analytics for that location are retained, but customers will not be able to place new orders until the location is re-enabled.
If you open new locations in Square, they will automatically appear in Layout the next time a sync runs. You can then choose whether to enable them for mobile ordering. This makes it easy to scale as your business grows without needing to reconfigure your app.
If you ever experience issues with a location not appearing, not accepting orders, or behaving unexpectedly, the first step is to confirm that the location is active in Square and enabled in the Layout dashboard. You can also manually trigger a Square sync to refresh location data.
