The setup wizard is the most important step in getting your Layout app ready for customers. Once your subscription is active, the setup wizard becomes available in the dashboard and guides you through everything needed to configure your app correctly before launch. You can access the wizard directly from the dashboard homepage at any time, and your progress is saved automatically.
The first part of the setup wizard focuses on basic company information and branding. You’ll be asked to confirm details such as your business name and primary location information. This ensures your app displays accurate business details and is properly associated with your account. From there, you’ll upload branding assets, including your logo and any additional images used throughout the app. It’s important that logos are high quality and scalable, as they will appear across different screen sizes and devices.
Next, the wizard guides you through selecting your primary brand color. This color is used throughout the app interface, including buttons, highlights, and interactive elements. Choosing a strong, consistent brand color helps your app feel polished and aligned with your in-store branding. You can update branding later, but this step sets the foundation for your app’s visual identity.
After branding, the setup wizard moves into connecting Square. This step uses a secure OAuth flow that allows you to sign in to Square and grant Layout access to your catalog, locations, orders, and loyalty data. You do not need to enter API keys or configure technical settings. Once connected, Layout will begin pulling in your Square data automatically.
During the Square connection step, you’ll be asked to select which locations should appear in your app. If your Square account has multiple locations, you can choose to enable only specific ones. Each enabled location can receive mobile orders and appear in the app based on availability and configuration. You can change location visibility later from the dashboard if needed.
Once Square is connected, the wizard allows you to review how your catalog will appear in the app. Since Layout mirrors your Square catalog directly, this is a good time to double-check that your items, categories, modifiers, and variations are structured clearly in Square. Clean naming, logical categories, and properly configured modifiers will result in a better mobile ordering experience for customers.
The final steps of the setup wizard focus on readiness for launch. This includes confirming that syncing is active, ensuring at least one location is enabled, and verifying that your branding and catalog look correct. Completing the wizard does not automatically publish your app to customers, but it ensures everything is configured correctly on the backend.
You can revisit the setup wizard at any time if you need to update information or make changes. Layout is flexible by design, so updates to branding, Square data, or locations can be made even after launch without downtime.
If you run into issues during setup, onboarding is one of the most common areas where questions come up. You can contact Layout support directly through the support tab in the dashboard or by emailing [email protected], and the team can help review your setup or walk you through any step.
Once the setup wizard is complete, your app is ready to be shared with customers. From there, you can begin using announcements, push notifications, analytics, and Layout Tap to drive downloads and engagement.
